Maw6ini is an audio visual installation that simulates the internal experience of the Arab diaspora in the west through the appropriation of the english language.

The piece involves typographical artworks spanning across embroidery, soundscapes and video based on the anthem Mawtini (homeland), an Arabic song by Palestinian poet Ibrahim Touqan. The Arabic lyrics are phonetically represented in English letters and symbols.

Mawtini, the anthem (please listen while looking at the artwork)

Lost in Translation (video piece that accompanies the installation):

A conversation with Hejazi's grandmother in which she attempts to translate the anthem to her.
